Scientific Degree Plan

The Scientific Degree Plan (PLS) was established as of 2004 for the degree classes in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics at the initiative of the MIUR, the Conference of Science and Technology Deans and Confindustria.
As of the 2017-2018 year, the classes present since the establishment of the PLS (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Statistics) and those introduced with the 2014-2016 PLS (Geological Sciences, Biological Sciences and Biotechnology) have been joined by Computer Science and Technology and Natural and Environmental Sciences and Technology.
The PLS represents a well-established initiative to foster the acquisition of scientific skills that better meet the challenges of contemporary society and the expectations of the world of work on the part of students and to strengthen the impact of education on society.

The actions aim at

  1. systematising the practice of the ‘laboratory’ for the teaching of basic sciences, in particular for the formative orientation of students in the last three years of secondary school;
  2. opening a new experimentation in schools and universities of self-assessment and remedial teaching activities, aimed at improving the preparation of students in relation to the knowledge required at the entrance to science degree courses, in connection with the tests and additional training obligations provided by degree courses pursuant to Article 6, paragraph 1, of Ministerial Decree 270/04;
  3. consolidate, develop and systemise the opportunities for the professional growth of science teachers in service in secondary schools, in relation to the above-mentioned topics, which have already begun to be implemented through the actions of the Scientific Degrees Plan;
  4. reduce the drop-out rate between the first and second year of university studies through the innovation of teaching tools and methodologies.
