UNITA - Universitas Montium

UNITA - Universitas Montium is one of the European University Alliances funded by the European Commission within the framework of the Erasmus+ European Universities initiative. The University of Turin coordinates this ambitious project, which, from November 2023, involves 12 European universities in 7 countries and the legal entity UNITA GEIE. The project aims to have a transformative impact on teaching and research, as well as on the relationships between the university and its surrounding territory, by proposing excellent, student-centred education from a European and transnational perspective. Students directly benefit from UNITA through access to a wide range of courses offered by partner universities, the opportunity to participate in innovative mobility programs (both virtual and physical), and enhanced opportunities for networking and collaboration at a European level, helping them to broaden their academic and personal horizons.

Launched in 2020 with a 10-year development horizon, one of the main objectives of the project is to create an inter-university, transnational ‘campus’ which promotes student, teaching and administrative staff mobility as a vehicle for international and intercultural education within the European Higher Education Area.

 

Research

The UNITA Alliance aims at contributing to the educational, scientific and cultural progress of the regions of the countries involved, fostering sustainable development, strengthening the local innovation ecosystems supporting the transition to a knowledge-based economy, whilst promoting and accelerating European integration within and beyond the territories.

The universities in the Alliance support the creation of thematic and interdisciplinary research groups through matchmaking events on various scientific topics and by awarding grants to projects developed among partner universities, particularly, but not exclusively, related to the thematic axes of the Alliance:

  • cultural heritage
  • circular economy
  • renewable energies
  • global health
  • digital transition
  • inclusive societies

Research and innovation cartography

The UNITA Research and Innovation cartography is a public access database that maps the R&I activities carried out in UNITA universities.
Research staff members from UNITA universities working on projects under one or more Research Axes are strongly encouraged to participate: it is a great opportunity to increase the visibility of projects, paving the way for the establishment of fruitful research synergies and partnerships between researchers from different universities, who can come together to apply for funding.

UNITA Student Assembly

The UNITA Student Assembly is a body within the alliance composed of students from the 12 universities, acting as a bridge between the governance of the alliance and the student population.
It addresses all matters of interest to the student community within the alliance, including their involvement in UNITA’s decision-making processes and the proposal of new projects to be developed and shared with partner universities.
In March 2025, took place the elections for the representatives of the UNITA Student Assembly. Detailed information about how to apply as a candidate and voting procedures is available at UNITA Student Assembly web page.

Mobility Programmes

This is a new mobility format introduced under the Erasmus+ 2021–2027 project, consisting of a blended mobility experience involving at least three universities from the Alliance. The mobility takes place both virtually and in person, according to a structure defined each time by the exchange coordinators. To participate, students must apply through a call published on the page dedicated to the programme.  

UNITA offers a catalogue of courses proposed by the universities of the Alliance, delivered virtually. This mobility format, recognized in the student’s academic record through the completion of a learning agreement, is designed to explore teaching at another European university remotely, gain an international experience that could serve as preparation for a physical mobility project, and broaden one’s academic curriculum through activities not offered at the home university.

To apply, students must respond to a call published on the page dedicated to the programme.

This is an innovative short-term mobility format involving a training internship in rural or mountain areas located within the territories of the partner universities. The destinations available each year can be found on the page dedicated to the project. 

Collaborative Online International Learning involves an integrated mobility experience within a standard course and the virtual participation of teachers and students from the universities involved in the project.
